Gardeners’ Store and Facilities

Gardeners’ Store and Facilities

Gardeners’ Store with innovative ‘living’ roof created within historic walls

The Challenge

This project involved building a gardeners’ storage facility to a unique design within an incredibly tight site, enclosed on all sides by historic garden walls in the centre of a live college environment. We love a challenge!

We were also working ‘next-door’ to another contractor and sharing access and services with them so it was vital that we communicated closely with them as well as the client.

The Approach

We employed trusted subcontractors for all the main sub-con parts of this project.

In order to ensure that all aspects of the project were delivered to the client’s satisfaction we made sure that we took an active lead role in liaising with their architect over the details of the design.

As usual, we ensured that we always provided ample office-based support for our on-site foreman, to keep the project on track and deal with any liaison and communication required.

We took a ‘hands-on’ proactive role with

our client and professional team to help the decision making process associated with any design and monetary issues. This ensured that we kept the project on time and delivered within the budget.

We take great pride and interest in all elements of our work to produce a coherent, best quality outcome.

The Outcome

The building is now complete and both the client and the gardening staff are extremely pleased with the result.

Because of the surrounding walls, the "windows" are all roof lights.
The rest room is lit from overhead.
The main door was made in our own joinery workshop.
Sun tubes illuminate the corridor below.
Natural light and warmth in the potting room help to bring on tender plants.
